Intake air temperature implausible
NOTE: The fault is detected if the measured value changes by only less than 1.5 °C (27 °F) under the conditions detailed below.
NOTE:
- Only turbocharged engine:
The intake air temperature sensor is integrated in the boost pressure sensor.
- Only naturally-aspirated engine:
The intake air temperature sensor is integrated in the hot-film mass air flow sensor 1 (right).
Diagnostic conditions
- Cold start conditions met, i.e.:
- engine off for > 9 hours
- Coolant temperature has fallen by > 35 °C (63 °F) since last engine stop
- Coolant temperature when engine starts < 37 °C (99 °F)
- Difference between intake air temperature and coolant temperature < 6 °C (43 °F)
- Vehicle has NOT been and is NOT standing in the sun
- Engine start recognized
- Engine running > 23 minutes
- Distance driven > 7 kilometers (4.4 miles)
- Coolant temperature > 94 °C (201 °F)
Possible fault causes
- Intake air temperature sensor faulty
