Diagnosis information - DME V6 DFI Thermostat stuck open
NOTE: This fault is stored if the engine is not heated from below 40 °C (104 °F) to over 60 °C (140 °F) after throughput of a defined mass air flow. This indicates that the thermostat may be stuck in open position.
An unchanged temperature signal may also be caused by a faulty sensor, however. Check the fault memory entry.NOTE: The fault can be checked best on a dynamic power analyser.
CAUTION:
Danger - heavy drive line - damage may result if unsuitable test stands are used. Use only a suitable dynamic power analyser for four-wheel-drive vehicles (e.g. MAHA LPS 2000).
Diagnostic conditions
- Engine running
- Engine start temperature between -10 °C (14 °F) and 50 °C (122 °F)
- Ambient temperature between -10 °C (14 °F) and 42 °C (108 °F)
- No vehicle speed fault
- Engine temperature increase after start calculated by way of mass air flow throughput corresponds to a temperature of above 60 °C (140 °F).
Possible fault causes
- Thermostat stuck open
- Engine temperature sensor faulty
