Information:
This technical bulletin describes only the retrofitting of the electrical wiring harness and the installation of the amplifier, which is a pre-requisite for
the installation of the High Performance Audio System in vehicles with the above-mentioned equipment.
Retrofitting of the High Performance Audio System has already been described in Technical Information notice, Group 9, No. 9/99.
The front section of the two-section electrical wiring harness connects the amplifier to the radio and the loudspeakers in the doors. The rear section,
which is connected to the front section via the 8-pin plug connection, controls the loudspeakers on the console and the rear loudspeakers (only
required in 911 Carrera (996)). When installed in the Boxster, the wires for the rear loudspeakers can be removed from the 8-pin plug.

Work Procedure:
1. Preparatory work.
1.1 Luggage compartment.
1.1.1 Remove spare wheel, battery cover and right-hand cover of the radiator tank. Disconnect and cover the battery.
1.1.2 Remove the cover of the brake fluid Supply tank and cut out cut-out for the plug of the amplifier (Figure 1, Item A).
1.1.3 Only for vehicles with Porsche Stability Management (PSM). Remove cover of PSM lead and cut out marked cut-out for the amplifier
bracket (Item B).
1.1.4 Undo carpet lining on the firewall (luggage compartment/radiator tank) and remove plug from the bulkhead (radiator tank/passenger
compartment; Item C).

1.2 Interior.
1.2.1 Remove radio or PCM and wrap the 8-pin brown plug of the standard wiring harness with adhesive tape as rattle protection and fasten to
components or wiring.
1.2.2 Remove instrument mount (Technical Manual, Group 7, Serv. No. 7018).
1.2.3 Remove both loudspeakers from the console (Technical Manual, Group 7, Serv. No. 7018). Wrap both vehicle-side plug housings with
adhesive tape as rattle protection and fasten to components or wiring.
1.2.4 Remove cover under the passenger's airbag and uncover both of the A-pillar trim elements in the footwell, including the fuse and relay
carriers.
1.2.5 Remove both door panels.
2. Route electrical wiring harness.
2.1 Remove blue sealant from the grommets of the wiring harness.
2.2 Lay the wiring harness starting from the (front) luggage compartment through the grommet (Figure 2, Item A) into the radiator tank.
2.3 Feed the wiring harness in the radiator tank between the heating hoses and the bulkhead through the grommet into the passenger
compartment.
2.4 Insert blue sealant into the grommet(s) and install the grommet(s).
2.5 Lay the 8-pin black plug and the 6-pin yellow plug from the footwell on the driver's side to the radio slot and fasten them to available
components or wiring.
3. Installing the power supply for the amplifier.
3.1 Position the amplifier at the standard installation position in the (front) luggage compartment.
3.2 Wrap adhesive tape around the power supply wires, RE; 6.0 and BK; 6.0 of the amplifier up as far as the aperture in the grommet on the
firewall plus 5 cm beyond it.
3.3 Produce a hole according to the wiring diameters (power supply and loudspeakers) in the carpet lining on both the right and left of the
installation position of the amplifier.
3.4 Install the wires for the power supply through the grommet depending on the vehicle type (see Figure 2, Item A) into the radiator tank.
3.5 Perform further work related to the power supply according to Technical Bulletin, Group 9, No. 9/99.
4. Install amplifier.
4.1 Engage U-clips (2 x) for securing the underside of the amplifier bracket in the luggage compartment.
4.2 For the upper fastening, insert two corrugated nuts into the corresponding bores in the bulkhead (luggage compartment/radiator tank).
4.3 Install the cover of PSM lead and the cover of the brake fluid supply tank.
4.4 Insert the amplifier in the bracket(s).

4.5 Install the cable lugs of the screening wires (color: brown; 1.52) on the amplifier with a bracket using the cross-recess screws.
4.6 Insert both plug connections (loudspeakers and radio) on the amplifier.
4.7 Install the carpet lining and the amplifier with bracket at the standard installation position. Information: In order to guarantee sufficient
cooling of the amplifier, make sure that an adequate distance is present (at least 5 mm) between the amplifier and the carpet lining.
4.8 Install cover for the PSM high-pressure pump.
5. Installing wires in the passenger compartment and the doors.
5.1 Press the plug pins of the long wires for the rear loudspeakers out of the 8-pin brown plug, Pins 1/2 and Pins 7/8.
5.2 Lay the short wires of the 8-pin brown plug along the original wires according to their designation (see Information) to the respective
loudspeaker on the console.
Information:
Wires are currently designated with driver side and console/right. As the entire system is calibrated to the driver, the wire with the designation
driver side must always be laid to the driver side.
5.3 Lay the wires BR and WT; 1.5 for the door loudspeakers according to their designation (left/right) to the respective A-pillar.
5.4 Lay the wires BR and WT; 1.5 into the hinge pillar at the rear of the vehicle-side plug.
5.5 Remove and disconnect the plug connections X11 and X12 in both hinge pillars.
5.6 Check whether the wiring harnesses with the 2-pin plugs (see Figure 3, Item A) for the door loudspeakers are already present in the doors.
No: Continue with Point 5.6.1.
Yes: Check the plug position of the wires GN; 1.5 and BR/GN; 1.5 at the door-side plug. Connect the wires BR and WT; 1.5 in the
vehicle-side plug in the same position with the pairing GN to WT and BR/GN to BR.
5.6.1 Pull away the lower corner of the door film on both doors in the area of the hinges.
5.6.2 Lay the wires RE; 1.5 and BK/RE; 1.5 of the door wiring harness starting from the door through the wire grommet to the door-side plug.
Insert the receptacles in random free positions. Connect the wires BR and WT; 1.5 in the vehicle-side plug in the same position with the
pairing RE to WT and BK/RE to BR.
5.6.3 Work a hole into the pouch of the door film (Figure 3, Item A) and guide the 2-pin plug of the wiring harness through the hole. Stick
adhesive film as reinforcement around the aperture according to Figure 3.
5.6.4 Stick a corner of the door film on both doors.
5.7 Connect the plug connections X11 and X12 and fit to the hinge pillars.
5.8 Cut the door film at both slots (Figure 3, Item B) and engage the sheetmetal nuts (enclosed in the small-part bag of the High Performance
Audio System) into the slots. Then mask the cuts with adhesive tape.
6. Prepare both door panels for the installation of the door trim panels.
6.1 Carefully enlarge the rivets for fastening the oddments tray on the interior of the door panel with a tapered drill bit.
6.2 Remove oddments tray and frame.

6.3 Perform further work related to the door panels according to Technical Bulletin, Group 9, No. 9/99.
7. Concluding work.
7.1 Install the A-pillar trim in the footwell area, if necessary affixing it with Dekalin adhesive.
7.2 Insert all plugs, Incl. the yellow 6-pin plug, on the rear side of the radio and install the radio.
7.3 Perform all further work according to Technical Bulletin, Group 9, No.9/99.
