M/T - Clutch Pedal Returns Slowly On Release

Clutch Pedal Does Not Fully Reach Its Original Position

As of 1997 up to 2004



Equipment: Manual transmission (G86/00, G86/01 and G86/20)



Concerns:



Clutch hydraulic system



Situation:



After pressing the clutch, the clutch pedal is slow to come backup and does not fully reach its original position.



This is caused by air in the hydraulic system.



The following procedure applies in the event of a complaint:



Procedure:



1. Vehicles from model year 97(V) to 03(3): --> Step 2



Vehicles from model year 04(4): --> Step 3



If Step 2 or Step 3 has already been carried out: --> Step 4

2. Check that the circlip in the clutch pipeline is fitted in the groove for the plug-in couplings according to instructions in --> Technical



Information '300100 Clutch pedal sticks' (No. 2/03). To do this, perform a visual check on the plug-in coupling installed in the left plenum



panel in the body front section.



If circlip is fitted correctly: --> Step 3



If circlip is not fitted correctly: Fit the circlips according to instructions in --> Technical Information '300100 Clutch pedal sticks' (No. 2/03).



Note



After installing the circlips, bleed the hydraulic system according to the revised instructions in the Workshop Manual, --> see Preliminary



information --> Workshop Manual '30007 Bleeding the clutch system',



End of remedial action.



3. Bleed the hydraulic system according to the revised instructions in the Workshop Manual, --> see Enclosure and Preliminary information

End of remedial action,



4. If, contrary to expectations, the problem occurs again after you have carried out the remedial action described in Step 2 and Step 3, the



following procedure applies:



4.1 Visually check the clutch pipeline close to the plug connections for leaks. If you find a leak, replace the affected threaded joint. The



procedure for replacing threaded joints is described in --> Workshop Manual '302331 "Converting clutch line on master cylinder" (-->



Step 8).



4.2 Visually check the clutch master cylinder for leaks. If you find a leak, replace the master cylinder, --> Workshop Manual '300519



"Removing and installing the clutch pedal".



4.3 Replace the clutch slave cylinder.



4.4 Bleed the hydraulic system according to the revised instructions in the Workshop Manual, --> see Enclosure and Preliminary



information --> Workshop Manual '30007 Bleeding the clutch system'.
