Oil Filler Cap

Vehicle Type:

Boxster/Boxster S

Model Year:

Boxster as of 1997 (V), Boxster S as of 2000 (Y)

Concern:

Check Engine light (MIL) on.

Information:

The Check Engine warning light may illuminate if the oil filler cap is loose, or is not properly seated. To ensure proper engine management system

operation, the oil filler cap must always be properly seated and fully engaged onto the oil filler neck. If the oil filler cap is not fully engaged, or is

tilted, (not engaged on both sides) the filler cap O-ring will not provide a complete seal, and the following DME fault codes may result:

Motronics software version 5.2: P1124, P1126, P1127, P1128.

Motronics software version 7.2: P1125, P1132, P1127, P1134

(Erase the fault memory when the work is complete).

Note:

Whenever reinstalling the oil filler cap, (such as when topping up engine oil) always check condition of the oil cap seal, and ensure that the oil

filler cap is properly seated and is fully tightened.
