Claims Of Tesla Hack Wide Of The Mark鈥攚e Dig Into GNSS Hacking

So, a company most of us haven't heard of tells us that it's demonstrated disturbing vulnerabilities in Tesla. Tesla, in effect, says said company is just looking for a buck and there's no problem, but it doesn't really provide any details. Where does the truth lie? That question necessitates a look at the merits of this specific Regulus-vs-Tesla claim鈥攁nd then a broader glance into the history, technology, and possibilities of GNSS spoofing itself. If you read the opening paragraph of this article and thought that evil hackers took remote control of a car and made it go violently off-road, no strings attached, don't feel bad鈥攜ou were almost certainly meant to. But the reality is much different. The first, most obvious objection is that Regulus physically affixed an antenna to the roof of the Model 3 and wired it into its systems before the demonstration. That isn't really the smoking gun it appears to be; it would've been possible to get the same effect with no antenna or wires, it just would have been extremely irresponsible (and most likely illegal).

Tesla could take the lead in autonomous driving in the coming years, according to one analyst. The beleaguered electric automaker has seen its shares decline 32% this year amid concerns around its pace of production and demand for its vehicles. The stock is up 22% this month as investors regain faith in the company after CEO Elon Musk's deal with the Securities and Exchange Commission to stop tweeting about Tesla's performance. But Tesla has a massive opportunity in self-driving vehicles that most of Wall Street seems to be discounting, said Tasha Keeney, an analyst at Ark Invest covering industrial innovation. Unlike Alphabet's Waymo or General Motors' Cruise Automation, two self-driving projects that have garnered buzz on Wall Street, Tesla has the added advantage of actually selling a product through which it can gather consumer data, Keeney said. That's evidenced by a rule Tesla enforces among lessees of its standard Model 3 cars, Keeney said. That could put Tesla at a slight advantage to Waymo and Cruise, which are still in a position to be front-runners in autonomous driving when commercialization begins, Keeney said. And, with Ark predicting that 26 million electric vehicles will be sold in the U.S. 2023 鈥?a forecast that hinges on the firm's expectation that battery costs will decline dramatically over the next several years 鈥?Tesla maintains its market advantage even in Keeney's worst-case scenario. Tesla doesn't reach full autonomy. 600 a share in the bear-case scenario, which also predicts that the company will need to raise capital in the next few years. Tesla gained less than 1% in afternoon trading Wednesday.

SARDINIA, Italy鈥擨f you鈥檙e a storied carmaker, nothing quite rests the weight of history on your shoulders like juxtaposing your latest, greatest creation against its legendary ancestors. Case in point: the press introduction of the 2019 Porsche 911 Speedster, where museum examples of the ragtop鈥檚 forebears鈥?56, G-Body, 964, and 997 Speedsters鈥攁re on display in their charismatically old school, blue-chip, investment-grade glory. Though predated by four generations of Speedsters with barely a hint of performance upgrades, the new example is the first Porsche in history that鈥檚 a bona fide GT3 production car with its roof lopped off. This stuff is fearfully and wonderfully made in a way that its antecedents鈥攚hich were essentially chopped and trimmed-down versions of coupes鈥攃ould only dream of. Yet the old-timers still have an admittedly evocative call, especially when their bodywork鈥檚 complex curves glint in the Sardinian sunlight. 275,750 price tag, which is similar to many of the old collectibles鈥?values after decades of rampant appreciation. Faster than you can say, 鈥渁ndiamo!
