Porsche 718 Boxster And Cayman Launched In India
Porsche has launched the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman in India at a price of Rs. 85.53 lakh and Rs. 81.63 lakh, respectively (ex-showroom, Delhi). The updated models get the new 718 moniker and are powered by turbocharged, small capacity engines that replace the outgoing model's naturally aspirated power plants. Though the overall design of the new 718 Boxster and Cayman looks similar to the previous model, Porsche has made some subtle updates throughout the car. These changes include larger air intakes on the newly designed front bumper, new quad-LED front headlamps and a completely redesigned set of alloy wheels. The rear gets the majority of the changes, owing to a pair of reprofiled taillights and a black strip that runs between the tail lamps and houses the Porsche branding. On the inside, the 718 Boxster and Cayman get a new steering wheel and sports seats, while the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system is now offered as a standard fitment. In India, the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman have been launched with a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged engine that churns out 296 BHP and 380 Nm of torque. It is available with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard, while a 7-speed PDK automatic gearbox is offered as an option. Porsche claims that both these cars can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.1 seconds, which can further be cut by 0.4 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono package. The company-claimed top speed is 275 km/h.
What's interesting is that for this project, she especially bought a new Tesla Model 3 Standard Plus sedan. She went on to convert the electric sedan into a pick-up by removing its boot and sawing through the rear half of the roof. Even though the idea of Truckla may sound crazy to some, Simone apparently received a lot of help from a bunch of people, including a person who specializes in dismantling totalled Tesla. These people joined Simone in her endeavour to turn her Tesla Model 3 to Truckla. The first and foremost challenge for Simone and the team was to figure out how to include the flat bed in the sedan. The team sifted through multiple design options and then decided to cut the roof, but not before removing the boot lid and rear windshield. They then removed the electrical connections to disconnect the battery. Once that was done, they fitted the flat bed (taken from a damaged pick-up truck) and roof rails to complete the Truckla. Now, if you are wondering whether the Truckla comes with a special drivetrain, then the answer is no. Simone and the team made no changes to the chassis and the powertrain of this electric pick-up truck. So, the Truckla is powered by the same battery pack that propels the Tesla Model 3 Standard Plus and perhaps even offers same driving range.
An Italian container ship bound for Brazil while carrying some 2,000 cars including some three dozen Porsches caught fire and sank in the Atlantic Ocean just off the coast of France last week. All 27 crew members aboard were rescued by the British military, though French authorities quickly began to clean up an oil spill caused as a result of the sinking. The vessel ran aground on March 12 about 150 nautical miles southwest of Brest, France, at a depth of 15,000 feet beneath the surface of the ocean. German automaker Porsche confirmed on Tuesday that the doomed vessel was carrying four models of the 911 GT2 RS. Production of this specific model ended last February, but Porsche will manufacture a few more to make up for the lost shipment, according to Carscoops. The Stuttgart-based company wrote a letter to its Brazilian customers informing them that they would reproduce the model especially for them. 鈥榃e are sorry to inform you that, due to a fire, a Grimaldi group ship, that was transporting your vehicle, sank on March 12, 2019,鈥?the company wrote to its customers. 鈥楢nd for that reason, your GT2 RS can not be delivered.
鈥楢s you may know, Porsche ended the 911 GT2 RS production on February 2019 and under normal circumstances, it wouldn鈥檛 be possible to give you another car. In addition to the 911 GT2 RS, Porsche had a number of other models that were lost at sea. They include 718 Caymans, Boxters, and Cayennes. In total, there were 37 Porsches aboard the Grande America. Another European car maker, Audi, lost a number of its vehicles in the shipment, including the Audi A3, A5, RS4, RS5, and Q7 models. A crew of 27 were saved from the Grande America on March 11 as it was engulfed in flames after a Royal Navy vessel moved in to rescue them from 150 miles away. It took sailors on HMS Argyll just eight hours to save every person aboard the 28,000-ton merchant ship in the Bay of Biscay after the ship鈥檚 cargo of containers and cars caught fire. The crew aboard the Grande America merchant ship had been trying to fight the flames but were forced to abandon it, climbing into their lifeboat despite the 5m to 6m swirls in the sea at night.
