The autonomous trucks would at first be used in very specific situations, with safety in mind, he said. 鈥淪afety is in the DNA of the Volvo Group,鈥?he said, so the company hasn鈥檛 set firm timelines yet, preferring to focus on the safety aspects. Tesla TSLA, -1.38% has been developing its own electric truck, which would come with Autopilot, Tesla鈥檚 suite of advanced driver-assistance systems. The truck, called the Semi, is expected to head into production toward the end of the year. Alphabet鈥檚 GOOG, -1.81% GOOGL, -1.75% driverless-vehicle unit Waymo said on Twitter last month its 鈥渇ully self-driving鈥?trucks will return to Arizona to continue tests on freeways. 0.37% shut down its self-driving truck unit a year ago to focus on driverless cars. Shares of Nvidia have gained 15% this year, which compares with gains of 16% and 13% for the S&P 500 index SPX, -0.33% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
