A new prototype of the forthcoming Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 has been spied testing at the Nurburgring and much like others snapped last year, it appears to be wearing its production-ready skin and inching towards its global premiere. The original Porsche Cayman GT4, introduced back in 2015, was a huge success for the German car manufacturer. However, the new 718 Cayman GT4 will launch with a six-speed manual and a PDK will only become available at a later date. It is believed that power will be sourced from either a 4.0-liter flat-six engine free of any kind of forced induction. Power for the previous-generation GT4 sat at 380 hp but this new model could have upwards of 420 hp. That may not be quite as much as the 911 GT3 but the mid-engine layout of the Cayman promises to make it an exceptional driver鈥檚 car. The 718 Cayman GT4 should weigh slightly less than other Cayman versions and could shed as much as 110 lbs (50 kg). The sprint from a standstill to 62 mph (100 km/h) should take roughly four seconds with the car running through to a top speed of around 185 mph (297 km/h). From a visual standpoint, the most obvious difference between the new GT4 and lesser Cayman models will be the rear wing. Sitting on a set of sky-high uprights, the wing is much larger than the previous GT4 and features larger endplates. Elsewhere, the car comes equipped with a revised rear diffuser where a pair of exhausts neatly stick out. Other alterations will include a tweaked front fascia with larger air intakes and a set of larger wheels.
Like the track-spec Clubsport version, it鈥檒l allegedly use an in a natural way aspirated 3.8-liter flat-six creating 420 horsepower (313 kilowatts). Car claims the Cayman GT4 would, in the beginning, be available only with a six-speed manual. Spy shots (previously mentioned) previously give an excellent idea of what the 718 Cayman GT4 looks like. Compared to the previously hostile GTS, the GT4 has even larger intakes in its front fascia, presumably for routing a lot more cool air to the radiators and brakes. A fixed-wing adorns the rear outdoor patio. The dual exhausts are wider apart than on the GTS, and there鈥檚 a prominent diffuser back there, also. The Clubsport racer makes use of organic-dietary fiber composite for the doors and wings, but it鈥檚 not even crystal clear whether or not this light material is on the road car, as well. If you鈥檇 favor this performance but with the added ability to feel the blowing wind in your own hair, Porsche also has the 718 Boxster Spyder under development. It will share all of the mechanized components with the 718 Cayman GT4 but has a bikini-style top with bands that connect to the improved rear deck. There are no specifics but about when the range-topping convertible may arrive, but in some cases, Porsche unveils variations of the Boxster and Cayman together - like with the GTS versions. We can鈥檛 rule out the Spyder dropping its top at the Goodwood Festivity of Speed, too.
The Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Yokohama was back at the Montreal Formula 1 weekend on the famous Gilles Villeneuve circuit for races three and four of the 2019 season. 鈥淧erfect weather, nearly 40-car field, and the energy of the large crowds present contributed incredible excitement at our second race weekend of the year,鈥?said Marc Ouayoun, President & CEO, Porsche Cars Canada, Ltd. A few laps into the 30-minute race, a series of incidents took place across the track that resulted in a 15-minute full course caution. 鈥淚t鈥檚 never easy,鈥?said De Angelis. 鈥淚nitially on the start, we had pretty good pace. We set the car up so it was good towards the end, but it was struggling at the beginning to pull a gap. It seemed like - and obviously not and I hope everyone鈥檚 okay - but everyone kind of crashed on one lap and had a lot of clean up to do.
