Pumpelly, Porsche Take GT4 America Sprint Race 2 At CTMP





The top five approaching the halfway point were Pumpelly, Andretti, Robinson, Michael Cooper (No. 10 Blackdog Speed Shop McLaren 570S GT4, up from eighth) and James. Three-time series champion Cooper was on a roll and, on lap 20, he moved past Robinson to slot into third. Two laps later, James pushed past Robinson as well through Turns 3 to slot into fourthth. Andretti鈥檚 Am-division winning McLaren challenged Pumpelly鈥檚 Porsche for the overall lead just past the halfway point, and finished a strong fifth. By lap 25, Andretti had closed right up to Pumpelly, the gap just .325 seconds. On lap 27, the McLaren and Porsche were side by side through Turn 8, but Pumpelly defended and kept his lead. With under 10 minutes remaining, Andretti, Cooper and James were in a three-way battle for second, which allowed Pumpelly to gap the trio behind. At the checkered, Pumpelly crossed the line in first by 1.4 seconds, with Cooper second, James third, Stacy fourth and Andretti fallen to fifth, first in the Am class. With the win, Pumpelly provisionally leads the Pirelli GT4 America Sprint series driver鈥檚 championship with 98 points, while James has 93 and Cooper 90 - a close rivalry at the top. Porsche鈥檚 new 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman are fitted exclusively with turbocharged 4-cylinder engines, but more potent versions of the cars are coming and these will stick to naturally-aspirated flat-6 engines. That鈥檚 the word of Porsche engineer August Achleitner, who is in charge of the 718 and 911 sports car lines at the German automaker. 鈥?-cylinder turbocharged engine wouldn't fit,鈥?he said. Achleitner went on to explain that Porsche has no intention of ditching naturally-aspirated flat-6 engines anytime soon, stating that they will be reserved for enthusiasts models like the GT4, GT3 and GT3 RS. The successors to the Boxster and Cayman GTS models will go the 4-cylinder turbo route, though, according to Achleitner. The Porsche engineer also revealed that it was a no-brainer for the automaker to launch successors to the GTS, GT4 and Spyder since the cars have been extremely popular. But don鈥檛 expect the 718 line to quickly inflate with various models like we see in the 911 line. Achleitner said Porsche will only add more models if it makes sense to do so.

The new 2019 Audi A6 was mostly telegraphed. The luxury four-door sedan that was revealed Tuesday (although leaked earlier) follows the same jabs that the larger 2019 Audi A8 and 2019 Audi A7 threw first with a mid-size uppercut from Ingolstadt. The A6 combines technology found in the opulent full-sizer and sultry sportback with a raft of fuel-saving features. Whether the looks of the new sedan are a knockout, we'll have to wait to see. Audi detailed two engines for the A6, although only one is likely headed to the U.S. A 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6 likely will be the first available engine in the States, rated at 340 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. A 7-speed dual-clutch automatic will be standard in Europe for the new A6, although it's possible that an 8-speed unit is swapped when it makes the trip overseas. According to Audi, the A6 will sprint to 62 mph in 5.1 seconds when equipped with the gas engine. A turbodiesel initially will be offered in Europe, but it's not likely in the U.S. All-wheel drive is standard equipment on the A6, and an optional sport differential will be made available for certain models.





For the first time, the A6 will feature four-wheel steering that can dial in up to 5 degrees of counter-steering at slow speeds for better maneuverability, or in concert with the front wheels at high speeds for better handling. The new A6 rides atop a stiffer frame, with a mixture of steel and aluminum in body panels and suspension components for lighter weight. Audi will offer its variable steering ratio system in the A6, which can vary quickness from an impossibly fast and agile 9.5:1, to a lax 16.5:1 for comfortable long-distance cruising. Like the A7 and A8, the A6 should arrive in the U.S. 100 mph, or a start/stop system than can cut idling while braking at speeds up to 13 mph. The A6 features Audi's newest MMI infotainment system, cribbed from the A7. A 12.3-inch driver information cluster will be available in the A6 and can complement a 10.1-inch touchscreen for infotainment and an 8.6-inch touchscreen for climate controls, when equipped.
