New James Bond Inspired Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Revealed

New James Bond Inspired Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Revealed

To mark the 50th anniversary of the sixth James Bond movie, 鈥淥n Her Majesty鈥檚 Secret Service,鈥?Aston Martin has launched a limited edition DBS Superleggera. Inspired by the 1969 Aston Martin DBS featured in the Bond classic, the new car will be limited to just 50 units when it goes on sale at the end of 2019, with each costing 拢300,007. New additions for this new limited edition model include a set of unique diamond-turned alloy wheels, a carbon fibre splitter, a carbon fibre aero blade and a new six-slat metal grille, which apes the grille fitted to Bond鈥檚 DBS. The limited run DBS Superleggera is also finished in 鈥淧ainted Olive Green,鈥?to match the 1969 classic from the film. The interior of Aston Martin鈥檚 commemorative DBS Superleggera is trimmed in black leather and grey Alcantara, again to match that of the 1969 model. It also comes with a range of red trim highlights such as red piping, stitching and embroidered limited edition badges. The powertrain is unchanged, so you鈥檒l find a 5.2-litre V12 producing 715bhp and 900Nm of torque under the bonnet. As an optional extra all 50 owners of the special edition model will have the option to spec a drinks case. The case fits into the boot and comes with a red felt lining, four champagne flutes and space for two bottles of champagne.

56,900 and gets you a 2.0L engine. 69,300 which comes with upgraded suspensions and a 2.5L engine paired to a larger turbocharger making 350 hp. 80,700 you get the Boxster GTS which incorporates a variable geometry turbocharger to take the power to 365 hp. The 718 Boxster S is the best trim to go for as it adds some much needed features to the sports convertible and makes it worth the money. The bigger tyres improve not only the handling characteristics as well as the grip through the corners. Although the flat-4 is an efficient and balanced engine, the grating noise it makes doesn't meet the refinement you expect from a Porsche. The 6-speed manual is quick and precise, however, not as sharp as the 911. The optional 7-speed dual clutch transmission on the Boxster S gets you steering mounted shift paddles along with the bump in acceleration times. The Boxster's arch nemesis the F-Type convertible with the twin turbo 2.0L inline-4 engine makes 300 hp and sounds monumental.

The 300 hp engine gets your convertible to 60 in 4.9 seconds from a standstill and through the quarter mile in 12.7 seconds. The Boxster S is much faster taking just 4.1 seconds to 60 mph. The Boxster GTS takes that number down to 3.9 seconds in the mile-a-minute sprint. In the city the ride is relatively relaxed and controlled, the throttle response is predictable yet precise. The brakes are larger than ever before, with 13s on the front and 11.8-inch discs on the rear, they deliver powerful stopping force. Weighing less than 3000 lbs, the Porsche's work like a charm not only on tracks but also city streets. The brake pedal is extremely precise and direct, much like the steering. The M240i convertible has huge 13.4-inch brakes up front and 13.6 at the back, but the curb weight is also much more than the Boxster. The Corvette Stingray also is one of the lighter convertibles but still gets bigger brakes to go along with the V8.

With a thrifty 2.0L 4-cylinder engine inside, the Porsche give excellent fuel economy, at least considering the competition. The PDK automatic transmission enhances the economy as compared to the manual transmission. The Corvette with a V8 has pretty low fuel economy ranging from 16 in the city to 25 on highways. The C-Class cabriolet is among the best economies with 21 mpg in the city while the M240i gets you the best economy of 30 mpg on highways. The driver-oriented cockpit makes the ride even more engaging for the driver, with a sport steering wheel with column mounted shift paddles and controls for the audio and cruise control. The seats, as expected of a sports convertible have excellent bolstering and support to keep you in place through the corners. With enough headroom for the tallest occupants the low roofline doesn't hinder practicality. The 4-seater convertibles not only have better space for the occupants but also get more interior storage, however, the rear seats aren't as useful as you'd hope to have with most of them not being able to accommodate tall adults. The M240i convertible and the Mercedes C-class cabriolet have some of the best passenger capacity in the segment.
