Over the past year or so, we鈥檝e heard a lot about Porsche鈥檚 plans to add a hybrid 911 to its lineup. Porsche also recently announced that the next-generation Macan will go all-electric. After seeing what Porsche can do with performance hybrids such as the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo, we鈥檙e pretty confident in the German automaker鈥檚 ability to electrify its lineup without ruining driving dynamics. Now, Porsche鈥檚 begun talking a little more about plans for electrifying the 718 Boxster and Cayman. Speaking with Autocar, Porsche chairman Oliver Blume recently revealed that electric 718 prototypes have already been built, and various hybrids will begin testing soon. 鈥淲e have prototypes of the 718 running in electric now, and a hybrid prototype is being built,鈥?he said. According to other unnamed sources Autocar spoke with, the decision to introduce a hybrid or plug-in hybrid Boxster and Cayman first is directly related to the limits of current battery technology. With its current mid-engine platform, an all-electric Cayman would reportedly have a sub-200-mile range. Supposedly, the plan is to now develop an electric version of the Boxster and Cayman on Porsche鈥檚 PPE platform, which would give the resulting car a much longer range.

Until a few years ago, a car like the upcoming Porsche 718 Boxster Spyder would've simply been a special aimed at Porschephiles and car collectors. Nevertheless, now that naturally aspirated machines are an endangered species, we have even more reasons to applaud the mid-engined special. However, the arrival of the 2019 Porsche 718 Boxster Spyder and 2019 Porsche Cayman GT4 will broaden the options. While Porsche has confirmed that the two will maintain the naturally-aspirated flat-six tradition, the carmaker hasn't offered extra details. Nevertheless, we're expecting the mid-engined delights to pack downtuned versions of the 4.0-liter boxer motor animating the said Neunelfers, with these delivering around 400 hp. As it has been the case with their predecessors, Porsche will probably steer clear of offering a PDK gearbox, with these machines expected to come in manual trim only (this is the carmaker's way of preventing 911 cannibalization). We are now just months away from the debut of this pair, with both models having been spied on multiple occasions. The prototypes are currently testing in production trim. This is also true for the 718 Boxster Spyder prototype we're here to show you, which has recently been spotted doing its thing on the Nurburgring. The work of art which is the manually foldable cloth top of the upcoming model is easy to behold here. Then there's the sculpted rear deck of the mid-engined model, which can instantly be labeled as a sight for sore eyes.

Porsche Boxster S Gear Shifting Problem! Well, I was half way in my beautiful shower and my wife called me and told me the Boxster is stucked in reverse gear! I was a bit puzzle when she mentioned that to me. So I quickly hop out of the shower and zoom straight Sg.Akar roundabout where she is stranded. Thank god it was just a few minutes from our home. When I check on the car I realised the gear is indeed stucked in reverse gear. She told me the gear shift suddenly became "loose" when she was shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. So she stop at the roundabout and try to shift to 1st gear which incidentally shifted to reverse gear. I called "Porsche Assistance" which then connected me to Porsche Malaysia. I explained to the assistance over the phone about the stucked reverse gear. I was then told to wait for a return call and so we wait around 10mins. She told us since our car is no longer under warranty then there won't be any free towing. I was like WTF? I don't care about the free towing. I just want to know is it safe to tow the car in reverse gear! Apparently the assistance is no help but thank goodness I called up QAF Porsche Service Advisor, Ira, and she contacted her supervisor and advised me what to do during the towing. We waited for the tow truck to arrive and now my lil Boxster is resting at QAF Eurokar Porsche. Tomorrow I will be going to the showroom and have a chit chat to see what the heck is going on. Hopefully is nothing major.
