SRO Makes Pre-Qualifying BoP Changes To GT4 Grid
SRO Motorsports Group has made sweeping Balance of Performance adjustments to the Pirelli GT4 America Sprint grid ahead of qualifying for this weekend鈥檚 season-opening races on the streets of St. Pete. Issued in a bulletin to teams on Friday evening, six of the eight GT4 brands taking part in the event have been adjusted following the pair of practice sessions held earlier today. The hardest hit for the second consecutive weekend is the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport, which has received an additional 10kg of minimum weight. Other cars have been given weight breaks ahead of the pair of 50-minute single-driver races. The KTM X-Bow GT4 has received a 20kg reduction, with 10kg less weight for the McLaren 570S GT4 and a 5kg break for both the BMW M4 GT4 and Panoz Avezzano GT. The Audi R8 LMS GT4, meanwhile, has been handed a 5mm reduction in the minimum front ride height, although retains the same ride height in the rear. No changes have been made to either the Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R or Ford Mustang GT4, which topped the time charts in Friday鈥檚 session by PF Racing鈥檚 Jade Buford. It marks the second consecutive in-weekend BoP change for GT4 America, following a post-qualifying weight increase for the Porsche during last weekend鈥檚 round at Circuit of The Americas. Teams will head directly into Saturday鈥檚 qualifying session, which begins at 9:15 a.m. ET, followed by Race 1 in the afternoon. The drivers of two supercars abandoned their two vehicles in the road and fled after they were involved in a horrific smash last night. Police were called to the crash between a Ferrari 458 Italia and a Porsche 718 Cayman GTS. The 26-year-old driver of the Porsche is known to have suffered minor injuries, but the driver of the Ferrari was not at the scene and Police are appealing for information to trace him and any passengers. The red 拢80,000 Porsche rolled over and lost both rear wheels in the accident, and somehow ended up with a take-away curry across the windscreen. Share The 拢150,000 Ferrari suffered heavy damage on the front of the passenger side. Both of the vehicle's airbags had deployed in the force of the crash. The crash, which resulted in more than 拢230,000 worth of damage, took place at around 7.55pm last night in South Yorkshire. Crowds gathered to gawp at the scene after the smash on the Tinsley roundabout in Sheffield. Witnesses described seeing both drivers running away from the scene of the accident immediately after it had happened. However, one driver is thought to have returned to the wreckage some time later. It is not currently known of there were any injuries or whether the police are investigating the circumstances of the crash. South Yorkshire Police put out an appeal for information. Dozens of Tweets were sent out, but one user was shocked to see that so many people had stayed to watch the aftermath. He tweeted: 'That seems an inordinately large crowd for a crash. MailOnline have contacted South Yorkshire Police for comment.
Long story short: it took about three tries to get it right. In the end I cut two short pieces of tube, glued to the top and bottom of the door, and one longer piece in the middle glued to the jamb. Butting the round stock against a relatively flat surface is not exactly the best way to make a strong joint, and I attached small strips of flat styrene stock to each hinge section to increase the gluing surface area. The hinge rod in the pictures has not been trimmed, so the door can still be taken off for doing the interior and other things; I'll trim it flush only once it is all done. With the door sorted out, I can now get this oddball LSR car back on track. It will sit next to a handful of other prewar racers of historic interest: Alfa Romeo 2900, Miller 91, Blower Bentley, Auto-Union Type C. Yes, a Type C! The Auto-Union is from a resin kit maker I had never heard of before: Fernando Pinto is a Spaniard who makes obscure F1 and early '50's road cars. The Porsche-designed supercharged 6-litre V-16, in a mid-engine chassis, was way ahead of its time on paper, although the handling was reputed to be challenging. Lesser drivers were unable to handle the combination of power and oversteer; the cars were driven to wins by greats like Nuvolari and Rosemeyer. The kit includes some very nice wire wheels, and a couple of metal items (steering column, pushrod tubes) are molded directly into the resin. Otherwise it is the typical resin kit, with lots of flash to be removed.
What has this water container got to do with my Porsche Boxster? I had it placed on the footwell of the passenger seat. While I was doing a right-turn at Kiulap, the water container tip over and the cover opened up and 90% of my drinking water spilled out to the passenger floor! So I quickly zoom to my Kiulap shop and took out a towel to have the carpet clean up. When I got out of the car, the car started to go berserk. Rear LED tail lamp started to blink like its Christmas Season in March! The spoiler started to go up and down for no apparent reason! The roof auto opened up with my latch still locked! I know by then worst had happened, my guess would be electrical or cable problems beneath the passenger seat. Fearing for the worst, I quickly drove to QAF to have the car checked by the Porsche specialists.
Luckily at that time, there were two Germans from Porsche AG on duty to train the Porsche staff. They took out my passenger seat and mentioned to me that there are several Control Units underneath the passenger seat. My body just went numb when they mentioned that to me. The guys at Porsche asked me to leave the car in the workshop so they can find out what damaged had been done by the water. So I just left car with the trusty people from Porsche workshop and of course at that time I am preparing for more worst news to come. The next day, I popped into the Porsche workshop again and speak to one of the service person. He kindly said to me that there are four control units affected by the water. Two control units they managed to save but the other 2 control units weren't that lucky. I was told it needed to be replaced. The price for the control units? 3000 for both and the worst news keeps on coming as they do not have stock and I needed to wait 3 weeks for it to be imported from Germany. I was told to drive the car home instead of leaving it in the workshop. So there you go with the BOXSTER S story, I had been waiting for the parts for almost four weeks. Last few days, I called and checked that the parts had arrived. So I dropped by BOXSTER S to the workshop last Thursday.
