The 2019 Porsche Taycan Will Debut In Production Guise This September

At this point, it鈥檚 safe to say Porsche has extensive experience with hybrid powertrains, as you can find them across the brand鈥檚 lineup, including the 918 Spyder hypercar, the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid sedan, and the Cayenne E-Hybrid SUV. Initially previewed in concept form three-and-a-half years ago as the Porsche Mission E, the 2020 Porsche Taycan is framed as a premium all-electric sports sedan. Unfortunately, based on the most recent spy shots, it looks as though the Taycan bears the traditional Porsche styling in front, rather than the crazy spaceship aesthetic previewed with the Mission E concept. The rear and silhouette will look very much like the Panamera sedan, albeit with a more squared-off rear end. Following the release of the Taycan sedan, Porsche is also expected to introduce a wagon body style with additional cargo room. The Taycan wagon followup will likely debut sometime in 2020 for the 2021 model year. Despite the all-too-familiar exterior, we expect the 2020 Porsche Taycan to offer a new cabin layout unlike anything we鈥檝e seen from the brand previously.

The aesthetic will be much more streamlined, with additional digital screens and fewer hard buttons. We expect large swaths of soft-touch materials everywhere, and a sporty three-spoke steering wheel to boot. However, the most important bits will be in the powertrain department, where two electric motors will provide the motivation with a combined 600 horsepower and all-wheel drive grip. Properly applied, it鈥檒l be enough to propel the sedan to 60 mph in less than 3.5 seconds, while the run from 0 to 124 mph will take less than 12 seconds. It鈥檒l also gain an additional 62 miles of range in four minutes when plugged into the appropriate charger. We also expect the 2020 Porsche Taycan to come with the brand鈥檚 entire catalog of handling-tech tricks, including adaptive dampers, torque vectoring, and massive brakes. Even though the final product is still under wraps, an impressive 20,000 people have already put money down to get their own Taycan, plunking down around 2,500 euros across the pond. Are you excited to see the final production version of the 2020 Porsche Taycan? Are you looking forward to Porsche鈥檚 move to all-electric performance, or dismayed? Let us know in the comments section below.

Audi has unveiled their newly-developed e-tron FE05 Formula E racer, scheduled to end up with Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler as well British squad Virgin Racing for the upcoming 2018-2019 Formula E season. This season is the most innovative one yet, as for the first time since the series was launched in 2014, drivers will only use one car per race thanks to batteries that can now last the entire 45-minute race distance. Thus, the mandatory car change has been eliminated. This new-generation e-tron FE05 racer comes without a rear wing, where downforce is generated by a large diffuser at the rear. In this new season, teams are permitted to run 250 kW (340 HP) motors in qualifying, while race output is capped at 200 kW (272 HP). Also new are the so-called activation zones where drivers can temporarily access a higher power mode, worth 225 kW (306 HP). Meanwhile, fans will still be able to support their favorite driver by casting their vote online via 鈥淔anBoost鈥? giving drivers a temporary power boost worth up to 250 kW (340 HP), same as in qualifying. In a straight line, the e-tron FE05 can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 3.1 seconds and max out at around 240 km/h. Round one of the 2018-2019 Formula E season kicks off on December 15th in Saudi Arabia.

While all the 718 Boxster models available on sale today have the dual exhaust tips next to each other in the middle of the rear bumper right below the license plate, this prototype was rocking a different setup. The placement of the tips with the wide separation between them is similar to what test vehicles of the rumored 718 Cayman GT4 Touring have been showing. This leads us to believe Porsche is looking to introduce a six-cylinder Boxster to slot between the GTS and Spyder. Our spies are telling us the prototype they鈥檝e caught on camera had a PDK transmission, and with prototypes of the 718 Cayman GT4 Touring showing a stick shift, it looks Porsche wants to please both worlds. It鈥檚 not known at this point whether the six-cylinder versions bound to be positioned below the GT4 and Spyder will utilize the same specification of the flat-six engine. Should that be the case, the naturally aspirated 3.8-liter mill will allegedly pump out somewhere in the region of 420 horsepower. A weight loss compared to lesser Boxster / Cayman models is also in the works, as are additional hardware tweaks to justify what will be a significant premium.
