In 1990 Honda鈥檚 first mid-engined, v6 powered NSX sports cars rolled off the assembly line and took the exotic super-car world by storm. The racing technology, light weight, build quality and reliability sent Ferrari scrambling for improvement. Production of the NSX ceased in 2005, but Honda promised a replacement in the coming years. Last year at the Detroit Auto Show, Acura premiered the Advanced Sports Car Concept (pictured above). Would this be a preview of the next generation NSX..? It looks as though this question will soon be answered. A camouflaged prototype caught by spy photographers running laps at the Nurburgring bears many similarities to the Acura show car. What we know at this time is that the NSX will have a V10 engine producing in the neighborhood of 550 horsepower. Also expect a version of Honda鈥檚 Super Handling All-Wheel Drive System to send power to all four corners. Insiders say that Honda is targeting the Nissan GT-R鈥檚 performance numbers at the Ring. We expect a 2009 debut as a 2010 model. Can Honda recapture the magic of the first NSX? We can鈥檛 wait to press the start button and find out..!
Starting in MY 1978, the new 3.0 L 911 SC (2994 cc) was now the basic 911 model. It was in effect a Carrera 3 (known as a 911S in the US) detuned to provide 180 PS (132 kW). The "SC" designation was reintroduced by Porsche for the first time since the 356 SC (as distinguished from the race engined 356 Carrera). No Carrera versions were produced and the 930 Turbo remaining at the top of the range. In model year 1980, Porsche offered a Weissach special edition version of the 911 SC, named after the town in Germany where Porsche has their research center. Designated M439, it was offered in two colors with the turbo whale tail & front chin spoiler, body color-matched Fuchs alloy wheels and other convenience features as standard. 408 cars were built for North America. In 1982, a Ferry Porsche Edition was made and a total of 200 cars were sold with this cosmetic package. SCs sold in the UK could be specified with the Sport Group Package (UK) which added stiffer suspension, the rear spoiler, front rubber lip and black Fuchs wheels. In 1981 a Cabriolet concept car was shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Not only was the car a true convertible, but it also featured four-wheel drive, although this was dropped in the production version. The first 911 Cabriolet debuted in late 1982, as a 1983 model. This was Porsche鈥檚 first cabriolet since the 356 of the mid-1960s. It proved very popular with 4,214 sold in its introductory year, despite its premium price relative to the open-top targa. Cabriolet versions of the 911 have been offered ever since. Porsche operating board member responsible for all engineering and development. I noticed a chart on the wall of Professor Bott鈥檚 office.

Car company slogans, taglines, catchphrases - call them what you will - nobody pays any attention to them, right? At least they don鈥檛 when a firm such as Mazda devotes all of five minutes and a budget of a fiver, if that, coming up with a line as meaningless as 鈥淶oom-Zoom鈥? Then there鈥檚 Cadillac鈥檚 鈥渢he new standard for the world鈥?cry, which is much better, but plain wrong. 鈥淏elow standard鈥?would be more accurate. At Britain鈥檚 best-loved company, Jaguar, there鈥檚 much pain on the financial, employment, production, sales, and other fronts just now. And, with this in mind, the firm is resorting to TV advertising to deliver its latest, desperately simple message: Search Jaguar Offers. The chant is boring but strangely effective, because - for the first time ever - I found myself immediately following the instructions by searching on my phone. Sadly - and crazily on the part of Brit-based, Indian-owned Jag - the deals were largely underwhelming.
Truth is, it鈥檚 got far more cars than customers, so I was expecting mega-discounts, zero-per-cent finance and similar temptations. But all I found was mention of deposit contributions (on their own, not enough) plus interest rates of 5.9 per cent (far too high). If loss-making Jaguar is to achieve the improved health it so desperately needs, it has to hammer home the sermon that its cars are world-class premium products. And some are insanely good value. Be my guest, pay well over 拢30,000 for a high-spec SUV from the likes of Hyundai, Kia, Skoda or Volkswagen. But, if you do, you鈥檒l be stuck in mainstream territory, instead of upgrading yourself to the premium league your budget allows you to enter. It鈥檚 a similar story with the larger F-Pace, 2017鈥檚 World Car of the Year, which can still be yours for less than 拢40,000 (or 拢300-plus monthly), making it a real bargain.
