Autocar spoke with Porsche chairman Oliver Blume, who confirmed that the company is already testing EV prototypes of the 718, though hybrid versions are also possible. 鈥淲e have prototypes of the 718 running in electric now, and a hybrid prototype is being built,鈥?Blume told Autocar. According to Autocar, the next generation of 718 will use Porsche's new PPE architecture, just like the Taycan. Reportedly, the current 718 architecture can only house enough batteries to support a maximum pure electric range of 186 miles. That wasn't enough for Porsche, so the company intends to add some sort of hybrid drivetrain option when the current-gen car is refreshed, before the next-gen EV appears. Whether it'll be a normal hybrid system or a plug-in hybrid like the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid has yet to be determined.

But given how similar they feel to drive, it鈥檚 hard to recommend the pricier, more compromised S7. Audi reckons it鈥檒l cost around 拢8k more than an S6 saloon - a big price to pay for a lower roofline.
