Regardless of weight removal, every one of the uncompromisingly high quality criteria characteristic to the Lamborghini brand still applies - even more so in the construction of the Super Trofeo. Instead of the series production electrically adjustable sports seats, the Super Trofeo is equipped with one low-mounted racing bucket seat, which provides perfect ergonomic support to the driver. The seat is produced in extremely light and stiff Kevlar carbon-fibre composite, and upholstered in black fabric. Its underside is made from black anodized aluminium. Six-point racing harnesses secure the upper body. The racing bucket seat alone saves over 50 kilograms. A data display system integrated into the race car鈥檚 CAN bus retains all the key information relating to the function and status of the technology. The small racing steering wheel with its chunky rim can be removed for entering the vehicle via a quick-release fastener. Shift lights in the instrument panel indicate when a rev limit has been reached, while an additional display shows lap times. A main switch for the on-board electrical network and a fire extinguishing system - both of which can be activated from outside the vehicle - complete the specific equipment in the race car made for the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo.
Porsche has released a new teaser video that previews an upcoming model. While the clip only provides a few glimpses of the car, it鈥檚 based on the 718 Boxster. The company didn鈥檛 have much to say about the model, but described it as 鈥減erfectly irrational.鈥?Porsche also suggested the car will be introduced soon. While the company is keeping details under wraps, the model is likely the 718 Boxster Spyder. That remains unconfirmed, but Porsche has been testing undisguised prototypes since August of last year. This means an unveiling should be right around the corner. Set to follow in the footsteps of the original Boxster Spyder, the all-new model is slated to an aggressive front bumper that echoes the one on the 718 Boxster GTS. Bigger changes occur farther back as the roadster has a unique rear lid with a double bubble design. The two 鈥榟umps鈥?are connected by a floating third brake light similar to the one used on the 911 Speedster. Previous spy photos have shown the model will also have a massive diffuser and a dual exhaust system. Other highlights include a new rear bumper and lightweight alloy wheels that are backed up by a high-performance braking system with red calipers. Like its predecessor, the 718 Boxster Spyder is expected to be powered by a six-cylinder engine. Rumors have suggested it could produce anywhere from 395 hp (298 kW / 400 PS) to 429 hp (320 kW / 435 PS). That鈥檚 a pretty wide range, but we should find out the final numbers soon enough. A storm is coming.
Porsche鈥檚 new 911 will arrive in Australia around April. 281,100 4S versions will lead the charge. These prices represent small increases over the current models. Capacity of the twin-turbo flat-six remains unchanged at 2981cc, but Porsche's engineers have entirely redesigned its cylinder heads. One key change is asymmetric inlet valve lifting to promote efficiency-boosting fuel-air charge swirl. In the S models maximum outputs increase 22kW and 30Nm to 331kW and 530Nm. All you 911 trivia lovers need to know that the updated engine's turbos now spin in opposite directions. The 991 had identical turbochargers, and this choice meant a flow-impeding kink in the plumbing for one side of the engine. For the 992, Porsche engineers have fixed this problem with mirror-image turbochargers. Porsche engineers confirm the rear-engined 992's standard eight-speed dual-clutch uses the same innards as the PDK in the front-engined Panamera. As in the big four seater, it's a hybrid-ready design with room for an electric motor between the engine flywheel and transmission clutches. Steel is no longer the majority metal in the 911 body. Wider tracks front and rear give the 992 broad but seductive hips. Porsche has also opted for larger diameter wheels at the rear. In the case of the Carrera S and 4S, this means 20-inch rims at the front, 21-inch at the rear. It's as hard to spot in real life as in the photos. Inside the 992 the large central touch screen is a window into more advanced infotainment, connectivity and driver-aid tech. Porsche is adopting many of the systems first seen in top-end Audis, like the use of digital map data to influence timing of the PDK's shifts.
