186,000 invested into the build! Drivtrain only has 20,000 miles! Here is one of the most enjoyable Porsches out there. 186,000 into the build. Finished in white on top of custom black leather and alcantara interior this Porsche is a one of a kind. The interior has custom factory sport seats wrapped in leather with alcantara inserts and grey leather baseball stitching along the edge. The heater is controlled by electric heat exchanger valves so no need for the original levers. Although the interior is beautiful that is not the most important part about this car, the motor and transmission are what make this car what it is. The motor started as a 3.2L and was bored out to a maximum of 107MM and using 3.7L pistons and cylinders. This hopped up motor sounds great with the twin exit sports exhaust. This power is put down through a custom G50 transmission that was retrofitted for this car and was rebuilt with race gears and a Billet shift fork. From the highly sought after G50 the power is then transferred to a ZF limited slip differential. The tie rods have been upgraded to Turbo tie rods and the front and rear brakes were upgraded to Boxter cross drilled rotors, brakes and exterior brake cooling ducts. Sitting nicely on HRE Performance wheels this Porsche has a stance that sets it apart. Do not miss this opportunity to own this well balanced, insanely fast, and no expense spared custom Porsche 911 Carrera.
Unless I am thinking of the wrong generation. It won an award for most sophisticated engine in the world or something like that. It had 100 sensors and two computers to control it. The only thing unreliable would be the rod bearings, which should be replaced. The unreliability comes more with the car itself, SMG transmission, and electronics. Like a lot of BMWs, the simple base models are generally reliable, but when you start climbing the ladder of features, luxury, electronics, it gets worse and worse. Theres a ton of that on the M5. I think that's a car I looked I don't remember what I didn't like. If you have the VIN I can run it and let you know. I dont have the M model but have had many BMW's . The Porsche is a totally different animal. It won an award for most sophisticated engine in the world or something like that.

So its an unreliable car then. Classic rod bearing and SMG issues and then a bunch of electrical gremlins. Even if the engine is great it sounds like its not worth dealing with everything else that comes with it. I will take the e39 all day long. Yeah, having a tough time valuing the car. It's a rebuilt title, but only has 20k miles on it and looks new inside and out. It's a 6 speed manual. If you like it and have seen the damage photos and plan to keep it for a long time and not have to explain the issue to the next buyer, go for it. Please stay away from the V10 in any chassis it is planted.
The SMG is a nightmare to repair and it constantly fails. Then there is a gazillion of micro switches, sensors and micro-gizmos that will pop random error codes that may or may not be self cancelling. Having to visit the shop for a scan that shows nothing can become very frustrating. Then there is the handling. The M5/6 are heavy cars. Very heavy. And IMHO they should be classified as GTs and not 聯sports聰 cars. I know that many people will disagree with this but driving an 996T is a better experience, especially if it is a manual one. Resale also is another factor. The 996 seems to be desirable nowadays in contrary to the M6 that just depreciates day by day. Please stay away from the V10 in any chassis it is planted. SMG pump and oil cooler will need to be done if they haven't been already. SMG is horrible compared to new stuff but fine when floggin.
