Lately hotrod 911s are sprouting like weeds. Most of them are backdated examples built on later SC or Carrera chassis. There is nothing wrong with that. In fact, I own one personally that I use for all of our touring events. However, when a true early longhood 911 outlaw/RS like this pops up, I鈥檓 quickly reminded why we love these early cars so much. This is an older build that was done right. It wasn鈥檛 about dumping huge horsepower in a German beer can and then lighting the torch. It was all about extracting the essence of driving a true 911 RS. This example is light, great power, tight, and well balanced. This Porsche left the factory in June of 1970 as a 911 E coupe. We believe it lived most of its life in California. Sometime in the 90鈥檚, the owner of a local SoCal Porsche parts business decided to build an RS tribute with this car. The car looked very similar visually to how it looks today. Shortly after finishing it, he sold the car to a long time early 911 enthusiast in Oregon.
This owner was actually looking for a 2.2L 911S at the time, but his family friend convinced him this was the car to buy. He kept the car for 4-years and really enjoyed it. Towards the end of 2002 he sold it to a local Orange County/SoCal owner as he finally found his 2.2L S project. For 15-years, this owner used this RS for weekend events like Cars & Coffee and other local shows. When this owner got the car, it had a 2.7L Weber carbureted motor in it. However, in 2006, he ended up buying a vintage 911 racecar that had a fresh 2.9L MFI motor in it. Well-respected engine builder Alan Faragallah of Aase Motors built this motor. In the summer of 2016, this owner decided that it was time for an engine refreshing. He ended up rebuilding most of the motor including new pistons and cylinders. 16,000. The 2.9L motor was a bit too aggressive for the street as it was running over 11:1 compression. So, he employed the help of Jae Lee.
Jae is the owner of Mirage Intl., one of SoCal鈥檚 top independent Porsche shops. They are responsible for some of the best air cooled engine builds in the area including early development for the Singer motors. Jae knows how to not only build a reliable motor, but a fast motor as well. After the build, the dyno results were 254hp and 235tq to the rear wheels (see pics). We sold this 911 2-years ago with 62,500 miles on the odometer to the current Orange County owner. This owner is a long time enthusiast who has owned 4 different Porsches over the last decade. He鈥檚 a local member of our Porsche Club of America chapter here in Orange County. He is 72-years old and retired. He bought this car to use as his primary vehicle. For the last 24 months, he鈥檚 driven it over 13k-miles. It was never abused, always garaged, and properly serviced.
He used Autowerks in Huntington Beach for most of the maintenance. This example is very tidy and clean. Although the paint is over 20-years old, it was a quality job and has held up well. The previous owner had the front repainted a couple of years ago to remove most of the rock chips from normal use. There are minimal signs of use from the last 13k-miles/2-years including some chips and superficial cracks on the front spoiler, which have been professionally touched up. There are a couple spots of paint bubbles (on the lower driver door and by the windshield - see pics). The fitment of the flares and panel gaps is excellent. All the glass looks great as does the rubber and original brightwork. The Fuchs wheels look good with no curb rash and are wearing tires with about 75% life remaining. The brakes have more than half-life remaining. The interior looks equally as nice. It is clean and minimalist鈥s a RS lightweight should be. The seats are near new and show no wear. The door panels and carpet are in great shape. The headliner looks to be original if not very old with some minor staining, but no tears and is in very good shape. The dash looks great with no cracks. The original speaker cover has some slight warping. All the gauges function properly including the clock. The heater controls work as does the rear defroster. The interior lights do not work. This 911 comes with extra keys, vintage style key fob/holder, original key code card, and many years of records/receipts including all recent mechanical work. Note: VIN and other numbers withheld to protect against fraud. All numbers including VIN, Engine, and color will be provided to serious buyers.
