I also have a 991.2.S with PDCC and RAS. In the 911 you have to have far more driving aids to get anywhere close to the Spyder, and still you fall short of that midengine corner speed and the confidence you have to ram it into corners. I've also owned a total of 6 Boxsters and Caymans, 3 of which had X73. The non-X73 cars weren't anywhere close. I'd have to agree. X73 was unreal for real-world driving. OP - suggest you drive the Spyder. The 981 Spyder also has a faster steering rack from the Turbo which makes the response very quick and sharp. Just gonna leave this here. Well would have been more apropos with a 991 Cabrio (350 hp and heavier) versus the Boxster S (315 hp), or the 991 Coupe (350 hp) versus a Cayman S (325 hp). At least this way you have more of an apples to apples comparison. A Boxster/Cayman equipped with X73 suspension would be unfair to the base 991 as it would easily make up the time difference in the video by keeping the car more in control and planted around corners.
I was surprised to see all that body roll the Boxster S produced which caused it to get badly out of shape. X73 equipped cars corner very flat and keep much more force over the drive wheels. Personally I dislike PASM. On a side note, when Porsche ran the 991 base Coupe on Nurburgring, if you check the notes you'll see the 991 base had PDCC installed which was never an option on the base Carrera. It's not uncommon for Porsche to do things out of sorts for better lap times. Porsche also had a history of purposefully muting the Boxster/Cayman versus the base Carrera, which ended with the 981 (on the 997 the base Carrera had a 3.6l motor). The result was usually measured in terms of lower power and smaller brake discs (diameter and/or thickness). That was exactly the case with the 991 base versus the 981 S. With the 718 Porsche naturally muted the 718 with the 4 cylinder engine, which in my estimation made Porsche less concerned with performance differences.
With 2 less cylinders (god awful sound and much less smooth power delivery versus the turbo 6), and all variants being turbo charged, Porsche could more easily dial in power differences to keep the status quo. Had Porsche bumped the power even a little bit in the Carrera T it probably would have overtaken the Carrera S in lap times. So Porsche is still in manipulation mode. Even though I've never owned a Porsche 911 Cabrio, I think Porsche did a good job with the design of the 991 and the fact the profile of the cabrio and coupe are near identical. If you need the extra seats/space then the 991 may be the better choice. In driving dynamics I'm sure the Boxster feels more razor sharp through twisties even with PASM, but the 991 will have a slight edge in traction and braking at the limit. This is why you have to be so careful on the internet. People are clueless. The Spyder has X73 suspension as standard, which inludes upgraded shocks, ARBs, and srings which deliver the best street handling Porsche has ever conceived.
