Mercedes-Benz W123 And R107 DIY
The intent of this blog is to serve the W123 Mercedes-Benz enthusiast community. While there is an abundance of forums, blogs and DIY resources on the web, I noticed over the years that too many are based on opinion or a handful of ideas. Sadly, the unnecessary opinions and ideas often do more harm than good to our classics and will only promote the demise of these superb motorcars. Thankfully, the maintenance and restoration of our W123's does not need to rely on opinion or guessing, and can be performed in accordance to original factory specs. This blog will only cover the W123 chassis. Mechanically, it will only cover the 4 cyl. W123 lineup. Chassis wise, it will cover the W123 model overall. A separate blog will be launching soon, which will focus on the R107, 450SL Mercedes-Benz. Mechanically, the 1975 450Sl will be featured, as it was the first of the series to be fitted with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated emissions or smog control.

Well, it鈥檚 not the yellow 911 carrera from the poster that hung in my bedroom through the early 90鈥檚, but I finally got a Porsche! It鈥檚 a 2014 Cayenne Diesel Platinum edition in Carrara White. 82k miles, CPO in near perfect condition. Originally bought new at, all 5k/10k services done at and traded in at the same dealership I bought it. I鈥檝e been looking for months and gone back & forth between the idea of E-hybrids, base models, diesels, 958.2 S鈥檚, panameras, 2011 turbos, to this. I drove 2 base cayennes, & an e-hybrid. There were 4 or 5 vehicles I seriously considered buying, but weren鈥檛 quite right. Never drove a diesel Cayenne before today, there were never any in my area. The main things I wanted were the Black/Luxor Beige interior, Panoramic sunroof, seat ventilation, hitch & reverse camera and this hit all those. I鈥檓 very excited. Post some pics if you get a chance, we'd like to see it. Congrats. I was in a similar situation. Had been thinking of replacing my 2008 GTI for YEARS but couldn't pull the trigger. My GF said I had been through 9 different cars in the last two years, all in my head. Never thought I'd own a Porsche then this 2013 Diesel came up on Craigslist. I also wanted the hitch, beige interior. The pano roof, ventilated seats, and lane assist were bonus. Purchased in February and had the engine-out reseal done a week later while still under warranty. This also allowed the Porsche tech, and me, to go over and inspect the entire drivetrain. I got 35mpg on my 60-mile commute today (though I think the computer lies a bit).
