2019 LA Auto Show: 2019 Porsche 911 (992 Generation) -
Personally, I鈥檓 a big Porsche fan, especially the 911. How can you not love a Porsche 911, though? It鈥檚 always been one of the very best sports cars on the planet, if not the very best. And this new one could very well be the best of them all and we actually expect it to be. This new Porsche 911 gets a revised turbocharged flat-six to start, making 443 hp. That鈥檚 not the base engine, though, as only Carrera S models will be available at launch. Still, the Carrera S is the most commonly bought 911, so it鈥檚 the engine that matters. Paired to that engine will be one of two gearboxes; either seven-speed manual or, more likely an all-new eight-speed dual-clutch PDK. The latter of which is what鈥檚 seen in the photos, with its little toggle switch gear lever. One really cool fact about the new Porsche 911 is that all of them get the wider body. With the previous 991-generation car, only all-wheel drive Carrera 4 models got the wider body style and it was one that all enthusiasts liked, as it looked sportier and sexier. Now, they all get the sportier body. The Porsche 911 is the quintessential sports car and always the car to beat in the segment. This one should be no different.
Toyota can look at the Alfa Romeo 4C for a little bit of a lesson in designing a small 2dr sport car. No fewer than 900 have been allocated for Europe in 2019, and yes, every last one of them has sold out as well. As far as pricing is concerned, the United Kingdom gets the GR Supra from 拢52,695 while the A90 Edition levels up to 拢56,945 on-the-road. Care to guess how much the Z4 costs in this part of the world? The BMW-badged sibling is 拢36,990 in the UK, capable of 149 miles per hour and 6.6 seconds from naught to 62 miles per hour. Of course, the M40i is more expensive, packing more suck-squeeze-bang-blow than the entry-level variant. The Supra, on the other hand, comes with the 340-horsepower B58 inline-six turbo engine from the get-go, hence the higher starting price. 500 Nm of torque allows the rear-wheel-drive coupe to accelerate to 62 mph in 4.3 seconds, and if you keep your foot planted to the loud pedal, the ZF 8HP transmission allows you to hit 155 mph. Before you do that, make sure youre driving on the race track or on the Autobahn.
Toyota of UK lists seven exterior colors for the GR Supra, starting with Prominence Red. The others are Black Metallic, White Metallic, Deep Blue Metallic, Silver Metallic, Ice Grey Metallic, and the eye-catching Lightning Yellow. An 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Supra Connect comes standard, together with Smart Entry and push-button start. A digital combi-meter and head-up display are standard on the 3.0-liter Pro trim level, but youll have to wait until 2020 for that model to arrive in the United Kingdom. Looking at the bigger picture, its hard to understand why Toyota is limiting production numbers instead of allowing Supra enthusiasts to buy the car in all variants possible, right now. Forget that, the A90 doesnt live up to the hype nor does it compare to the previous generation of the Supra. You know, the one with the 2JZ engine? Totally get that but you dont think the motor could of also been used in the IS350 / and multiple other lexus's that are RWD?
Just figured they could of made their own I6 which also could of doubled down as an i4 aka modular. But either or in the day of hybrids and electrics im glad we have yet another I6 RWD Turbo and even if its Toyota badged ( Legacy & Name Aside ) it will be a great modable car im sure. If anything we will drag other companys into the BMW fold that would of never made aftermarket BMW parts. Toyota already has a relatively new line of V6s both NA and twin turbo that can be used for both FWD and RWD. Again, no use in creating a new engine that isnt cost effective. It would be like BMW developing a V6 just to use in its FWD-based platforms and the i8. Toyota already has a relatively new line of V6s both NA and twin turbo that can be used for both FWD and RWD.
