When Bentley announced it was making an SUV, many people scoffed and began saying bad things about it. Probably the most affordable way to get similar performance to a Urus in an SUV package is BMW鈥檚 X6M, a fire-breathing coupe-styled high rider that鈥檚 already in its second generation. It has excellent on-road performance, thanks to its 4.4-liter, twin-turbo, V-8 engine which makes 575 metric horsepower (567 horsepower) and 750 Nm / 553 pound-feet of torque. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h or 62 mph happens in 4.2 seconds (0 to 60 mph in 4 seconds flat) and its top speed with the optional M Driver鈥檚 Package is 280 km/h or 174 mph. Aston hasn鈥檛 really left a lot to the imagination by showing this prototype whose camouflage is quite revealing. The DBX鈥檚 styling may split opinions, especially that oversized ducktail at the back, but the debate will be among people who wouldn鈥檛 buy it - others may see the Aston badge on an SUV and instantly want one. If aside from just being an Aston SUV, it will also have a great interior, be comfortable to travel in and be good both on- and off-road, then it could be interesting. After all, just plonking a fancy badge on so-so SUV won鈥檛 make instantly desirable - yes, I鈥檓 looking at you Maserati Levante.
We鈥檝e seen plenty of tuning proposals for the all-new Suzuki Jimny but this one is probably the first that goes beyond upgrading the tiny off-roader鈥檚 looks. Germany鈥檚 H&R fitted the Jimny with what it knows best to do: a suspension kit. Interestingly, the upgraded suspension is not for owners who will frequently take the Jimny off-road. Instead, it targets those users who will drive the tiny SUV in the city most of the time. As a result, the H&R suspension kit features a new set of springs that bring the Jimny 45 mm closer to the ground. In addition to making the SUV look sportier, the new suspension lowers the vehicle鈥檚 center of gravity, thus enhancing handling, especially in sharp turns. Besides the springs, H&R offers a complete suspension upgrade that also includes a set of Koni shock absorbers and roll bars that are said to bring significant handling improvements compared to the stock model. To further reduce body roll, H&R also recommends 3-way adjustable stabilizer bars with a diameter of 30 mm for the front and rear axles. Track and wheel spacers are currently in development. H&R makes no mention of other available upgrades but the 2019 Jimny they fitted with their new suspension kit also features an 鈥渦rban鈥?camouflage livery that looks really nice on the boxy SUV. Other visible tweaks include the smoked turn signals at the front, roof-mounted LED bar, as well as black Borbet CW alloys shod with off-road tires.
