The Audi Q3 is a compact 4x4 which follows Audi's Q5 and Q7. Its main rivals are BMW X1, Ford Kuga and VW Tiguan. Q3 comes with high interior quality, aggressive looks and reliable Audi engines making it stand out. The entry level model is front wheel driven keeping the running costs low, for the customers who don't want to have off road ability. Audi Q3 has the same looks of its elder siblings Q5 and Q7 just smaller in size. In comparison it has the same size of Ford Focus family hatchback. The S line models come with LED lights as a standard, while SE comes with normal halogen lights with an optional upgrade for distinguishing Xenon design. The SE line models are more comfortable to drive, S line comes with alloy wheels and a firmer suspension compromising the comfort. Q3 comes in three Audi engine choices, 2.0-litre TFSI with 168bhp and 208bhp in petrols and the 2.0 litre TDI in diesel.
Diesel engines are expected to take the most of the share of sales due to its efficiency and less carbon emissions than the petrols. Audi has never been famous for its dynamic handling but Q3 is the best effort yet when it comes to handling. Q3 is very engaging and easy to drive and equipped with twin clutch S tronic gear boxes. Audi Q3 has a 5 star Euro NCAP rating, all the trims are equipped with six airbags and electronic stability control. There is large choice of optional safety kit like Speed Limit Display, Active Lane Assist, tyre pressure monitor and many more. Like its other rivals- BMW X1 or Ford Kuga- THE Q3's design isn't really innovative or spacious. The room at the back is normal for a compact SUV, however the boot has a generous capacity of 460- litres which rockets to 1,365- litres once the rear seats are folded. Like BMW, there is a large transmission tunnel in the floor at the back, which does not allow much leg space for the passengers when travelling five up. Audi cars enjoy a strong resale value and this is the same with Q3, a big plus for private buyers. Q3 can achieve an average of 54mpg with 137 g/km of carbon emissions (front wheel driven with 138bhp diesel engine and manual gear box). Prices of Q3 are reasonable as compared to its rivals but if extras are chosen they turn out to be bit expensive.
What does the Porsche Cayman R have that the Porsche Cayman S doesn鈥檛? There鈥檚 20mm lower suspension, itself tweaked to take the weight reductions into account, and there鈥檚 a proper locking rear diff. Unfortunately you also lose the slick cupholders that slide out of the dash and the dashboard is low-rent plastic rather than leather-covered. Such are the sacrifices you make in the name of performance chez Porsche. Any other changes to the new Cayman R? Some tweaks are less intense, but still welcome: the direct-injection 3.4-litre flat six is now in Boxster Spyder-spec, with power increased by 10bhp at 200rpm higher. Our car had the optional twin-clutch, seven-speed PDK gearbox, but whether you opt for it or the six-cog manual, the 0-62mph time drops by two tenths, to 4.9sec for the self-shifter and 5.0sec for the enthusiasts鈥?favorite. What's the Cayman R like to drive? Brilliant. The R's steering is beautifully weighted and detailed, it鈥檚 more exploitable and friendly than a 911, and with the car鈥檚 sports exhaust there鈥檚 a proper hair-erecting howl. The seats are great, offering excellent support without the back-breaking hardness of Porsche鈥檚 most extreme buckets. This car had pretty much every option on it, including the PDK 鈥榖ox and ceramic brakes. There鈥檚 never been much wrong with regular Porsche stoppers, but the PCCBs are relentlessly strong, have great feel, and will stand you in good stead if you intend to take your R on a few track days. The Cayman R is an excellent sports car: fast, fun, and all the changes make it a little sharper and more incisive than the regular Cayman S, already a favorite around these parts. The bigger 64-liter fuel tank is a no-cost option we鈥檇 definitely have, air-conditioning is a necessity, and many buyers will pick sat-nav. Then you鈥檝e got a Cayman that鈥檚 faster and more focused than the Cayman S and edging ever closer to that entry level 911 Carrera.
We have to confess, we didn鈥檛 actually see this coming, the Porsche 918 Spyder. And even if we had I don鈥檛 think we鈥檇 have guessed it would be a hybrid hypercar. Perhaps it鈥檚 a first - a hybrid hypercar. And it鈥檚 alliterative. We should have used it in the headline. But the detail is what makes the 918 Spyder stand out. And not just the performance detail. After all, good though the performance is it鈥檚 no longer exceptional for a hypercar. But what is exceptional is Porsche鈥檚 claim that the 918 Spyder will do 90mpg and emit just 70g/km CO2. Of course - just like any hybrid car - you鈥檙e not going to hit the super-eco figures if you鈥檙e out for a mad blat. So Porsche has made it easy by setting up the 918 Spyder with 4 鈥楳odes. The Porsche 918 Spyder will be joined on the Porsche stand by two other Porsche Hybrids - the New 2011 Porsche Cayenne Hybrid and the Porsche GT3 R Hybrid. A Porsche hybrid-fest.
