2019 Porsche 718 Boxster / 718 Cayman T: The New Sweet Spot

2019 Porsche 718 Boxster / 718 Cayman T: The New Sweet Spot

You can鈥檛 say that Porsche doesn鈥檛 give its buyers enough variety. Hot off the reveal of the new 992-generation 911, that car鈥檚 little siblings, the popular 718 Cayman and 718 Boxster, are receiving the 鈥淭鈥?treatment. The new models will slot in between the base models and the uplevel S versions. In effect, the 718 T copy/pastes the options list from the 911 Carrera T from earlier this year. Whether you pick the Boxster or the Cayman, each 718 T packs the base 2.0-liter turbocharged flat-four, pushing out 296 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. Pick the six-speed manual transmission, and 60 mph arrives from a standstill in 4.9 seconds. The PDK automatic drops that time down to as quick as 4.5 seconds, while both T cars top out at 170 mph. For the first time, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) is offered with the base engine, dropping ride height by 0.8 inch. There鈥檚 also trick Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV), a mechanical limited-slip diff, a sport exhaust, active engine mounts, and 20-inch wheels. Just like the Carrera T, the shifter on the manual transmission is shortened for quicker shifts. Visually, each 718 T gets Titanium Gray wheels with matching mirror caps. The Sport Chrono package is standard as well, adding selectable driving modes on the steering wheel and launch control for cars equipped with PDK. Inside, the changes are subtler, being limited largely to red nylon door pulls and 鈥?18 T鈥?badging on the door sills and gauges. 70,350 718 Cayman S. Boxsters will cost a couple grand more.

Other than that, the Boxster S has mostly the same standard and available features as the base Boxster. The Boxster GTS is a new trim for the 2018 model year. The GTS features a 365-horsepower turbo-four engine and the same transmission choices as the other models. Check out our U.S. News Best Price Program for great savings at your local Porsche dealer. HE did really well and even managed to go faster than my father. Once their drive was over they were showed the video of their drives. With the video there was a pedometer that showed how fast the car was going for the entire experience. By the time the videos were done they had put together plaques with their pictures on them. Of course, they gave a discounted price if you got the plaque with the video, which is what they did. They both had the biggest smiles on their faces when they got out of the car. I think it is safe to say that they had a good time. For those of you that won't be driving or riding along, like my mother and I, there are plenty of places to watch. You can watch from where the drives get in their cars, which is right next to the track.

Or you can head over to the stands across the parking lot. The stands offer a full view of the track, which allows for great pictures. There is plenty of room for everyone to cheer on their drives as they zoom around the speedway. The stands are directly in front of the cornering portion of the track, which offers fantastic pictures of the cars. Would you give this driving experience a try? It was surprisingly very easy to get to the speedway. We were a little nervous about how long it would take given that we had such a long way to go: Animal Kingdom Lodge all the way to the Ticket and Transportation Center. We simply took the bus to the Magic Kingdom, then took the Monorail to the TTC. All we had to do was go to the lost and found office, off on the far left once you get off the monorail, and let them know that we needed to get to the speedway.
