Thermally Insulated Glass: Interference With Toll Transponder, Garage Door Openers and Radar Detectors (17/10)

Model year:

2010

Vehicle Type:

Panamera S/Panamera Turbo

Filing:

This bulletin replaces bulletin Group 6, # 0900, dated 11-11-09.

Equipment:

Thermally and noise insulated glass (I-no. 864, 865)

Concerns:

Windshield:

-    Driving with toll transponder (referred to below as "transponder").

Information:

The metallic film in the windshield of the optional "thermally and noise insulated glass" blocks the RF or infrared signal of automatic toll

transponders and garage door openers. Also, the signals detected by radar warning devices will not be able to pass through the windshield.

When driving with a transponder secured to the inside of the windshield, reception may be limited if...

...the transponder is positioned incorrectly on the windshield and/or

...a windshield is installed that does not have an open space for the transponder.

From November 26, 2009 onwards, the open space required for the transponder is provided on the inside of the windshield on vehicles with

thermally and noise insulated glass (--> Fig. 1 and --> Figure 2).

In the period before November 26, 2009, windshields that have the open space for the transponder at the bottom center of the windshield (--> Figure

2) were installed as a temporary measure.

Date of Introduction:

November 26, 2009

Position:

Position of open space for transponder:

- USA vehicles: At the left and right above the rearview mirror (--> Fig. 1).

Information

To ensure the best possible reception, only attach the transponder in this open space.

Action Required:

In the event of a complaint, check that there is an open space for the transponder on the windshield. The open space can be seen from the passenger

compartment.

If the open space is there: --> 1.

If not: --> 2.

1    Check that the transponder is fitted in the open space provided for it.

If it is: The transponder itself may be disrupting communication. If not: Attach the transponder in the open space.

Please inform your customer about this and give him/her the Owner's Manual supplement; see --> Attachment to this Technical Information.

End of action required.

2    Remove the windshield and replace it with a windshield with an open space for the transponder, see --> 641219 Removing and installing

windscreen.

2.1 Attach the transponder in the open space provided for it.

Please inform your customer about this measure and give him/her the Owner's Manual supplement;

see --> Attachment to this Technical Information.

End of action required.
