Headlight Ventilation
Vehicle Type:
Boxster / Boxster S
Model Year:
As of 1997 (V)
Concern:
Moisture accumulation inside the headlight assembly.
Information:
With a combination of weather, temperature, and humidity conditions, the headlight lens may become fogged with moisture for a short time.
The headlights of the Boxster / Boxster S have a ventilation system which uses the incoming air from between the bumper cover and the lower part
of the headlight assembly to remove the moisture. The headlights are also vented through plastic pipes located in the electrical connector that
extend under the vehicle. Only a short driving time is necessary to clear moisture from the headlights when the ventilation system is in "operation".
CAUTION!
^ Risk of damage to the headlights through abrasions and excessive temperature.
^ Do not affix anything, such as stone shields, ornamental covers, or films to the headlight lens. These covers will tend to rub against and not
allow heat to escape from the headlight lens.
Masking or covering the gap between the headlight and front bumper cover, i.e. by affixing foils, covers or front end covers (bras) available as
accessories, can also lead to moisture in the headlights and prevent ventilation from taking place. If installing such accessories, make sure that the
gap is not covered.
Affixing films and coverings that rest on the headlight lens or seal off the gap between the headlight and the front bumper cover can lead to
overheating damage of the headlight lenses.
Slight amounts of moisture do not cause permanent damage to the headlight; therefore the headlights are not to be replaced for this reason.
