2019 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Spy Shots And Video

2019 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Spy Shots And Video

Porsche鈥檚 718 Cayman and Boxster received the GTS treatment for 2018, but this doesn鈥檛 represent the end of the performance road for Porsche鈥檚 entry-level sports car. The German sports car marque is currently working on the next rung up the ladder, the new 718 Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder. Previously thought to be arriving for 2019鈥攊nstead we got the tamer 718 Cayman and Boxster T鈥攖he Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder should now arrive for 2020, meaning a debut can鈥檛 be far. Shown here is a prototype for the Cayman GT4, or possibly a more extreme Cayman GT4 RS. We鈥檝e also spied the Boxster Spyder in recent months. The standard Boxster and Cayman are fitted exclusively with turbocharged flat-4 engines, but the more potent versions are expected to run naturally aspirated flat-6 engines, just like their predecessors. That鈥檚 the word of Porsche engineer August Achleitner, who headed 718 and 911 development prior to retiring late last year. The last Cayman GT4, introduced for 2016, came with a 3.8-liter flat-6 good for 385 horsepower. There are rumors this new one will come with more than 400 hp. The latest 718 Cayman GT4 race car is running a 3.8-liter flat-6 good for 425 hp. What isn鈥檛 so clear is whether there will be a dual-clutch transmission available this time, though the option is rumored to be coming. The last Cayman GT4 was offered exclusively with a manual.

This featured a massive fixed carbon fiber wing, large 20 inch rims, side-mounted exhausts as well as a far more aggressive front bumper with a large splitter included. Unlike any other Cayman, the car also featured large carbon-ceramic brakes with yellow calipers, likely a throwback at the regular GT3. As this will be a lightweight version of the car, we doubt Porsche will offer more gear than in the other versions. Instead, the 2018 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS is likely going to feature the basics in order to allow the driver to focus on enjoying the car. We can expect a set of lightweight carbon fiber backed seats, Alcantara upholstery, a 918-like steering wheel and likely a roll-cage. Some also said the car will get no AC and no infotainment system. While this may be an option, the base model is more than likely going to feature both of these.

With its four-liter displacement of the naturally aspirated engine from the current 911-motors is derived and is, therefore, also in terms of acoustics is a piece of cake. He makes impressive 420 HP (309 kW) and 420 Nm so that the 718 is the Cayman GT4 and the open 718 Spyder to accelerate in 4.4 seconds to 100 kph. The top is 304 km/h in GT4 and in the case of 301 km/h at the Sypder. Both will burn an average of 10.9 litres of Fuel on 100 kilometers. The 718 Cayman GT4, Porsche developed with a clear focus on the race track. Its fully new developed aerodynamics, generates up to 50 percent more downforce for the same drag. On request, there is a roll bar, fire extinguisher and Six-point belt for the driver鈥檚 seat. In the open 718 Spyder, however, you will feel more in the bright sunshine, in wide curves of the road and the tight Hairpins of fits breeds at home. Of course, the lightweight hood is designed for high Speeds and can be accessed under the rear lid to stow. An active rear spoiler extends from 120 km/h automatically. So the Spyder is generated as the first 718 Boxster downforce on the rear axle. Both offer a manual six-speed transmission, optimised aerodynamics, GT-sport chassis and the corresponding brakes. Once again you are 30 mm lower than the civilised 718-sister models. The mechanical rear axle differential lock is specially designed for the race track. The new 718 Spyder and 718 Cayman GT4 can be ordered immediately, with prices starting at 123鈥?00 Swiss francs (Spyder) or 127鈥?00 Swiss francs (Cayman GT4).

Porsche are known to have been testing a new model over the past six months, and this could indeed be it. What you鈥檙e looking at here may just be the next Cayman GT4. Based on the new 718 series, this particular model spotted benefits from a unique set of rims adoring each corner along with red brake callipers hiding behind. Other noticeable enhancements include a restyled rear diffuser and a rear wing firmly bolted to the rear deck lid complete the package. These attachments are not found on the current 718 Cayman lineup. However, seeing as in the picture the model is surrounded by other Porsche鈥檚 including a Cayenne and Panamera, were inclined to believe this is the real deal and someone just forgot to apply the camo. What drives the new 718 Cayman GT4? With Porsche ushering in a new naming system for both the Cayman and Boxster models, a new engine was also bolted into place. Now using a turbocharged flat-four motor instead of a flat six, will the GT4 follow suit? Apparently not. Reports emerged last year that the new 718 Cayman GT4 will utilise the same 4.0-litre flat-six motor found in the current 911 GT3 although slightly detuned and mated to an all mighty manual gearbox.
