Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Scooped With A Possible 4.0L Flat-Six [New Images]

The Porsche 718 GTS offers an exciting blend of performance and handling but drivers looking to get the most of the car will want to hold off for the new 718 Cayman GT4. Recently snapped undisguised, the Cayman GT4 is distinguished by an aggressive front fascia and a small vent beneath the hood. The sporty styling continues further back as the model has lightweight wheels and a high-performance braking system with cross-drilled rotors and red brake calipers. The model also features a fixed rear wing, an aggressive diffuser, and a dual exhaust system. Our spy shooters couldn鈥檛 get close enough to snap interior photos but the previous Cayman GT4 was equipped with a sports steering wheel, leather / Alcantara sport seats, and lightweight pull straps on the doors. While the previous model featured a 3.8-liter flat-six engine derived from the 911 Carrera S, the all-new model will reportedly have a detuned version of the 4.0-liter flat-six that resides in the 911 GT3. In the latter model, it produces 500 PS (368 kW) and 460 Nm (339 lb-ft) of torque.

Safety agencies rarely evaluate luxury sports cars due to the costs associated with crash testing. A rearview camera comes standard, along with front and rear parking sensors. Available active safety features include blind spot monitoring, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic cruise control. Which Is Better: 2017 Porsche Cayman or 2017 Porsche 911? The 2017 Porsche 911 holds a few advantages over its class sibling, the Cayman. The 911 is a better sports car overall. It comes with an adaptive suspension, and its base engine produces 70 more horsepower than the Cayman鈥檚. The 911 is also a bit more practical; it has two rear seats, though leg space is quite limited. It also has a bigger trunk. However, you can pay almost twice as much for a 911. The Cayman鈥檚 value will appeal to more shoppers, making it the better car for most buyers. Which Is Better: 2017 Porsche Cayman or 2017 Chevrolet Corvette? Power-hungry drivers may prefer the 2017 Chevrolet Corvette to the Cayman. While the Cayman鈥檚 max output of 350 horsepower, the Corvette鈥檚 base V8 engine produces 455 horsepower. The Corvette鈥檚 available supercharged V8 gets you 650 horsepower.

Both the Corvette and Cayman feature tight and precise steering. However, the Porsche has a slight edge in handling, with excellent weight distribution and a lower center of gravity thanks to its midengine layout. Although both cars offer satisfying driving dynamics, the Corvette has the speed advantage, and the Cayman dominates with handling. How Does the 2017 Porsche Cayman Drive? The midengine 2017 Porsche Cayman comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 300 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. The Cayman S has a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine that generates 350 horsepower and 309 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is available. According to Porsche, the base Cayman goes from zero to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds, or as quickly as 4.5 seconds with the automatic transmission and launch control. It has a top track speed of 170 mph. The Cayman S goes from zero to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, or as quickly as 4 seconds with added performance options.

It hits a top track speed of 177 mph. Power and acceleration are potent from both engines, and most drivers won鈥檛 need the extra power of the larger engine. The optional automatic transmission is particularly impressive, delivering seamless and accurate shifts to maximize the engine's output. The 2017 Cayman outperforms its competitors (as well as earlier Cayman models). To put it simply, the Cayman is one of the best-handling cars on the market. Road grip is excellent in fast corners, and the ride quality is comfortable enough for everyday driving. Does the 2017 Porsche Cayman Get Good Gas Mileage? With the base engine and the automatic transmission, expect 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, which is decent for the class. If you upgrade to the Cayman S with an automatic transmission, you lose 1 mpg in the city and on the highway. How Many People Does the 2017 Porsche Cayman Seat?

The Porsche Cayman seats two on partial leather upholstery. Seating upgrades include full leather or premium leather upholstery, 14- or 18-way power-adjustable seats, heated and ventilated seats, and upgraded sport seats. The cabin feels open, with seats that are roomy, comfortable, and supportive. Sport seats are available, but they provide a negligible difference. Rear visibility is somewhat hindered by the roofline. The 2017 Porsche Cayman鈥檚 interior has mostly high-quality materials, but there are some design quirks. For example, Porsche leaves some buttons blank if the model is missing certain available features. It鈥檚 a minor annoyance, but it鈥檚 one you don鈥檛 expect when paying this much for a car. Standard features include automatic climate control, a six-speaker sound system, satellite radio, HD Radio, Bluetooth, and the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) 7-inch touch-screen infotainment system. Optional features include dual-zone automatic climate control, proximity key entry, push-button start, interior lighting accents, navigation, a 10-speaker Bose surround sound system, a 12-speaker Burmester premium sound system, Apple CarPlay, and Porsche Car Connect. The infotainment system has a sharp display and user-friendly controls that are canted toward the driver, which helps keep your eyes focused on the road ahead, and not on the infotainment screen. Because of its midengine design, the 2017 Porsche Cayman has two trunks. The front trunk has 5.3 cubic feet of space, and the rear trunk has 9.7 cubic feet. The Cayman's total volume is good for a luxury sports car, but there isn't much in-cabin storage. The 2017 Porsche Cayman is about 14.4 feet long. The base model has a curb weight of 2,944 pounds, and its gross vehicle weight rating is 3,648 pounds. The Cayman S has a curb weight of 2,988 pounds and a gross vehicle weight rating of 3,670 pounds.
