1985 Porsche 911 M491 Carrera Coupe

1985 Porsche 911 M491 Carrera Coupe

This 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera with approx. 140,000 miles is a factory Turbo Look (M491) model, finished in black exterior over black interior which features the fender flares, front and rear spoilers, suspension, and brakes from the contemporary 911 Turbo. Power comes from the 3.2L flat-six, which is mated to a 5-speed 915 manual transaxle. Only 213 M491 Coupes made for the United States for the 1985 model year. The 3.2L M930/21 flat-six made 207 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque when new. Engine pulls strong and compression tests were excellent when I purchased the car leading the mechanic to believe the car has had at least a top end rebuild in its history. The car came very loaded with factory options include sport seats, a locking differential, sunroof, and cruise control. M491 cars also received 930 front wheel hubs, rear torsion bar tube, suspension arms, and brakes. As detailed in the Carfax, the odometer was replaced during the life of car, therefore mileage is not fully accurate but careful consideration puts the mileage conservatively at 139k. The car does have some minor imperfections including minor paint chips.

By now you鈥檒l have read Andrew Frankel鈥檚 full back story and an early track test of the new 992-generation Porsche 911; or if you haven鈥檛, you鈥檒l find it here. In short, though, the eighth-generation 911, is, well, a 911, with the same wheelbase as the outgoing 991 and a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged flat six again. But otherwise it鈥檚 quite different. With so little steel in its body, it鈥檚 now officially an aluminium monocoque, as Porsche tries to offset the weight of new technology and crash protection it has brought with it. It can be had in two- or four-wheel drive, with both versions having the same width (2WD Carreras used to be narrower). The front track of both cars is up by 46mm, with the rear track on the 2WD S up by 39mm, now that it鈥檚 the same as the 4WD car. Tyres are massive: 245-section fronts, 305-section rears, on 20in and 21in wheels respectively, as the standard 911 adopts different-sized front and rear wheels for the first time, like GT 911s already have.

The Test Day opened on Sunday morning under a clear blue sky and perfect conditions. It was a comfortable 20C air temperature at 9am as the light turned green a pit exit and the first cars took to the 13.626 Kilometres of the Le Mans circuit. Drivers were faced with a very 'green' track surface, particularly on the public road secions of the circuit. 31 Dragonspeed quickest in LMP2 3:32.518 by Pastor Maldonardo. As Anthony pointed out, the goal of test day isn't necessarly to score bragging rights of fastest time, but to refine car settings and get drivers back in the groove. 23, expected the track to improve during the day. A 4 minute Full Course Yellow was announced at 1 hour 30 into first session. As there appeared to be no cars off track, we had to assume it was a rehearsal of the FCY procedure. 17 3:24.529 and most of the GTE Pro grid slipping under the 4 minute mark. 37 Jackie Chan DC racing Oreca. It was seen going slowly at the exit of the second chicane then staggered around to Arnage.
