This Porsche 911 GT2 RS Somehow Hit 219 MPH (352km/h)

The Porsche 911 GT2 RS is one hell of a machine and a few weeks ago, we brought you a video of one hitting a top speed of 211 mph (340 km/h). However, the German car is capable of even more. A silver GT2 RS recently took to the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds in the U.S. 219 mph (352 km/h). Sure, that may 鈥榦nly鈥?be 8 mph faster than we鈥檝e seen the same model previously go but when you鈥檙e talking of vehicles exceeding 200 mph, every mile per hour counts and is hard to come by. What is particularly surprising about this video is that Porsche claims the vmax of its range-topping 911 sits at 211 mph (340km/h) but evidently, that figure is somewhat conservative. Now before you cry foul and assert that the speedometer of this GT2 RS might be off, the 219 mph figure posted by wasn鈥檛 based on what the car said but in fact measured by GPS. That means the speedometer inevitably exceeded 220 mph and if the car had an even longer runway to speed down, it may have actually kept on accelerating. Powering the 911 GT2 RS is a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine with 690 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque. While these figures aren鈥檛 earth-shattering in a world of grand tourers with almost 800 hp, high-performance Porsche models have a habit of being even faster than their horsepower and torque figures may suggest.

Like the current model, the next-gen car will also become available in convertible and targa body styles. Naturally, the Carrera, Turbo, and GTS models will have their own unique features on the outside. By the time the new 911 arrives, Porsche will also have developed a new infotainment system, which will bring a larger touchscreen, improved connectivity, and numerous cool features to use at the track. The seats will also be redesigned to offer improved comfort and better support during cornering. As with most redesigns, the 992-generation 911 should come with improved, softer materials, new upholstery color combos, and enhanced customizing options. We should find out more in the first months of 2018 when near-production-ready prototypes are expected to hit the road. The mill was introduced with the 991.2 facelift in 2016 and replaced both the naturally aspirated 3.4- and 3.8-liter powerplants. Since they were brand-new for 2017, the 3.0-liter turbo will be used on the next-gen Carrera and Carrera S as well, albeit with some improvements. Moving over to the 911 Turbo and Turbo S, things are a bit more complicated. However, there鈥檚 no information as to what gasoline engine the German might combine with one or more electric motors. The V-6 in the Cayenne and Panamera hybrid models is an option, as the 918鈥檚 V-8 system is probably too large for the 911, but Porsche will definitely use the valuable lessons it learned while developing the supercar. August Achleitner, the director of the 911 model line, actually confirmed that Porsche is indeed considering electrification, assuming that it will fit the specific character of the sports car.

Porsche is a German automobile maker that traditionally specializes in sports cars and lately SUVs and sedans. The company is owned by Volkswagen AG and has headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany. It is the most successful automobile company in motorsport history with a total of 28,000 victories. The company was founded in 1931 by Ferdinand Porsche. It initially did not build cars as it started as a motor vehicle development and consulting firm. It eventually went into car designing and one of its earliest works was the Volkswagen Beetle commissioned by the German government as a car for the masses. The Volkswagen Beetle is widely considered as one of the most recognizable and successful car designs of all time. The company produced military versions of the Beetle during World War II. It also produced tank designs during the war. Ferdinand lost his title as chairman of the company at the end of the war.

His son, Ferry, built his own car which would eventually become the Porsche 356. The said car is widely considered as the first ever Porsche. Like other auto mobile makers, Porsche was not hesitant to partner with other firms. Porsche has always been close with Volkswagen. After all its founder designed the very first Beetle. Porsche cars are associated with luxury. Some of its convertibles like the Porsche 911 Carrera, Porsche 911 Carrera 4, 911 Turbo and Porsche Boxster are considered best-sellers. In terms of sedans, its new four-door Panamera has not only won critical acclaim but has also sold well. It is one of the fastest four-door sedans in the world. Through the years, the Porsche 911 has been considered as the king of sports cars. But since it was introduced in 2006, the Porsche Cayman has also become a favorite of driving enthusiasts with its sleek appearance and excellent mid-engine handling. It also helps that the Cayman is lighter, smaller, and less expensive.

Porsche stopped manufacturing the 911 GT2 RS in February 2018 but it appears like its production will have to start again at least for a few customers in Brazil due to an unfortunate incident. On March 12, Grand America, a cargo ship sank off the French coast as fire on a container on the deck completely damaged 2,000 cars on board. It includes Audi鈥檚 A3, A5, Q7, RS4 and RS5 models as confirmed by the brand鈥檚 Brazilian division. However, Porsche did not make any official confirmation regarding how many 911 GT2 RS鈥?were destroyed. A customer letter emerged on the internet clearly shows Porsche saying the GT RS could not be delivered on time due to the Grand America accident. The German manufacturer said that the consequence of the fire led to the brand resuming the 911 GT2 RS鈥?production in Germany in April and the delivery is scheduled two months later. Several reports suggest the presence of at least four units of 911 GT2 RS on the deck when the accident happened.
